Who doesn’t love Plazma keks, or as it’s called in the USA, Lane Biscuits? If you’re from any of the former Yugoslav countries, this was probably the first solid food you ate. Because it’s so versatile, there are thousands of recipes using these cookies/crackers/biscuits ranging from cakes to something as simple as these Kuglice or truffles/cookie balls.
Sitni Kolači or Balkan style cookies are a very popular dessert option for special occasions in place of a cake. Usually served in beautiful displays, these mini desserts can range from complicated with multiple layers (think petit fours) to something very simple with just a few ingredients. There are also vegan (posno) varieties that are eaten during major Serbian Orthodox holidays which contain no milk, eggs, or butter.
There are literally thousands of varieties for this dessert online. Some incorporate mashed bananas, others use candy fruit slices, and some are very simple using 3 ingredients or less. I decided to make mine with some of my favorite dessert ingredients: chocolate milk and Nutella. Yes, both are used in this recipe!
The Plazma Kuglice recipe I’m sharing with you today is decadent, delicious, and very simple to make. Kuglice/cookie balls in general, are a very easy type of dessert that take very little kitchen experience/skill to make, so anyone can make this recipe. I hope you give these a try the next time you’re craving something sweet or have a special occasion.

hoursPlazma Kuglice like you’ve never had before. Decadent, chocolaty, and delicious!
Ingredients
4.5 cups (400 – 450 g) ground Plazma Keks
2 cups (470 ml) chocolate milk
1/2 stick (56 g) butter
1/2 teaspoon (3 ml) vanilla extract
2 heaping tablespoons (oko 50 g) Nutella
- For Rolling/Toppings
Ground Plazma Keks
Unsweetened coconut flakes
Cocoa powder
Directions
- In a large mixing bowl add the ground Plazma Keks, set aside.
- In a medium saucepan, add in the rest of the ingredients (milk, Nutella, butter, vanilla) and on medium/high heat, heat up until the butter is melted (do not boil the mixture).
- Once the liquid is heated through, add it to the ground Plazma and stir everything together with a spatula until well combined. Keep in mind this will chill in the refrigerator and will firm up, so it’s ok that it’s not very firm at this point.
- Once the mixture is combined very well, scrape down the slides of the bowl and cover the mixture with plastic wrap so that the plastic wrap is touching the mixture (this is to prevent a skin from forming).
- Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for least 3 hours or until very cold. I prefer to chill mine overnight.
- When ready to shape, with dry hands take a little bit of the mixture and roll into the size of your choice. Then roll each ball into any of the above mentioned “toppings” and refrigerate covered until ready to serve.
Notes
- For this recipe, the yield will depend on how big your Kuglice are. I use a 1 teaspoon measuring spoon and roll 1 heaping spoonful at a time. This gives me about 40 kuglice. The bigger your Kuglice the less you’ll end up with.
- I use about 1/2 cup of each “topping” when rolling mine, but you can just use one if you’d like. I like to do 3 for a more visually appealing presentation.
- You can find Plazma Keks or Lane Biscuits in the European section of your grocery store or on Amazon!
